Some call me Shawn. Some call me Sun. Which ever you choose is alright with me. Middle-aged. A mom. An aunt. The eldest sibling. An IT professional and small business owner. I’m living in Barbados currently with the 12-Month Barbados Welcome Stamp Visa under my belt. I arrived from North Carolina, United States a little over a week ago. I decided to start this blog for 2 reason: To capture my journey with pictures and stories so that I can look back in remembrance and provide some insight to others who may be thinking of coming to this beautiful island of Barbados. I wish I had someone to tell me some of the things I’m finding out.

As you might know, the Welcome Stamp is extended to those that work remotely outside of Barbados. Pay a small fee for the visa and you’re in there! Or…outta there!

I saw the advertisement one day when scrolling Facebook. I thought “why not?” Why not look into it at least. Long story short, I’m here!!! I’m super excited for this journey and ready to immerse myself in the culture of this lovely, yet different place. All my friends and family are happy for me and following my journey on social media. I’ve done 2 publicized interviews about moving here. That was fun. Links down below.

So why did I decide to move to Barbados?

It’s funny because I’ve always wanted to live on a tropical island. I used to dream about it daily. Earlier this year, I literally spoke it to myself. I wished I could go live on an island, by myself, and just be. Now here I am. Dreams do come true. My only child is grown. I work remotely for a global company. I was mentally exhausted from COVID quarantine, the U.S. government going stone nuts, and just needed a change of scenery. It was crazy working from home and not being able to get out after work to relieve my mental.

So I say, let the journey begin. I do hope you find something that interest you. Come back and visit the blog often as I’ll be posting throughout my journey and share if you know someone who might find this information useful. Feel free to send emails to sundcleansingcakes@outlook.com. My Bottom Bay beach awaits.
