Bottom Bay, St. Philip – My little section of the country

Before moving to Barbados, I searched and searched for a living space within my planned budget, close to action but not too close since I would be working from home and prefer peace and quiet. Of course I was slightly handicap because I had no idea about the landscape of Barbados. I only relied on Google Earth to see certain spots. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally found a lovely beach villa in Bottom Bay on the east coast of St. Philip. I did have reservations because it was so far from anything. However, I couldn’t pass up the monthly rent, which was well below my budget.  So, here I am. In Bottom Bay, St. Philip.

For security purposes, I did not post any pictures of the outside of my place. It fairly easy to spot because it’s a standout color and there isn’t much else around me. About the area, I’ll just get right to it. Yes, it is a quiet area. It’s back in the cut as some would say. Others, it’s off the beaten path. Either way, you can definitely get your rest out here. I don’t have any immediate neighbors. Around one corner are some existing homes. Around another corner are bigger more lavish style homes. I’ll post pictures of those later.

It’s common to walk the street and see a herd of cows or goats near by. When I walk out my apartment, I smell do. I don’t need to explain that further. It’s awful but I just keep it moving.

What’s to do around Bottom Bay?

You can go down to the beach cliffs for some fishing. The bay is good for sunbathers as it’s nice and private and relaxing. Feel free to order delivery from Chefette or KFC. There are a couple of small stores off the main road. I see a few people hanging out there from time to time. Maybe for a good weed smoke or some rum. Of course you have the beautiful Bottom Bay beach. It’s a nice sized section of the area but be careful. Those waves can be vicious sometimes. I was in awe the first time I visited the beach. Stepped right into a postcard. Check out the photos below. While St. Philip does have a few hot spots for having a good time, Bottom Bay is a small section of the parish. There’s not much within walking distance of the main intersection of Bottom Bay and Applehall. The excitement resides where you are.

What else can I tell you?

Since it’s the country, the pests are more. St. Philip has the most centipedes. Heads up, down, all around. They will climb in the bed with you. I literally had to pull my bed away from the wall and spray around it after a centipede tried to snuggle with me. You can find a good insecticide at Carter’s Hardware called Sevin Insecticide. Overall, I can appreciate Bottom Bay for the peace and quiet. As someone who doesn’t like pests of any kind, basically a city girl, I would rather live nearer to the city. I’d love to be able to walk to get groceries or to a clothing boutique. I don’t think I would get the great rent price that i”m paying but I digress. Would I come back to Bottom Bay again. No, I wouldn’t. I hate pests. That is all.
